About Aspen

Situated in the heart of the soaring Colorado Rockies, approximately 220 miles south west of Denver, Aspen is one of the premier ski resorts in the United States. Although the town itself is fairly small, (under 6,000 people), your Aspen Colorado lodging options are plentiful.

Although primarily known as a world-class ski resort, Aspen is popular year-old destination, and offers a variety of activities for all tastes. Whether your idea of relaxation is hitting the slopes then après ski hot chocolate, or power shopping followed by a glass a wine, or extreme mountain biking with a beer and nacho chaser, Aspen, Colorado will be a vacation to remember, and we here at Aspen, Colorado lodging hope we can assist you in your stay.

At roughly 8,000 feet in elevation, the Aspen area is home to some of the country’s most picturesque peaks, and counts a total of four ski areas in its family: Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Snowmass, and Aspen Highlands. All four resorts are within 12 miles of town and each offers its own unique brand of winter fun.

Aspen Mountain

Since 1947, Aspen Mountain has been challenging advanced skiers with its famous black-diamond terrain. Aspen Mountain, (also called Ajax), provides you with 76 trails on 675 steep acres, and is almost as famous for its après ski party scene as it is for its world-class skiing.

Snowmass

Friendly, down-to-Earth Snowmass offers 3,132 acres of skiable terrain, including 91 trails, and 21 chairlifts. It’s the family favorite here at Aspen Colorado Lodging, due to the resort’s gentle runs, and family-friendly atmosphere. Three terrain parks, a beginner pipe, and a 22 foot high super pipe make Snowmass a snowboarder’s dream. Also great for cruising and casual skiing, yet 32% of its trails are “Expert.”

Aspen Highlands

Aspen Highlands is widely regarded as the locals’ favorite, and with good reason. Where else can you lift and hike up to over 12,000 feet, ski down an untouched bowl, and still remain in the ski area boundary? 36% of Aspen Highland’s 118 trails are expert, yet its 1,028 acres offer something for all skiing abilities. Just a caveat: its party scene won’t touch it’s more glamorous sister down the road, but for the skier’s skier, you won’t too much better than a day on Aspen Highlands.

Buttermilk

If you’ve ever watched the Winter X-Games on ESPN, you’ve seen Buttermilk. This gentle cousin to Ajax and Aspen Highlands is similar to Snowmass, in that it provides a more family friendly skiing experience. Buttermilk’s terrain park and pipes are becoming legendary in snowboarding circles. Buttermilk provides 44 trails, (35% of which are “Easiest”) on 470 acres of terrain.

Now that you have a run-down on the resorts, where are you going to stay? There are plenty of housing options for you to choose from, and we here at Aspen Colorado Lodging will show you all of your hotel options, ranging from expensive, to very expensive. (C’mon, this is Aspen. What did you expect?)

Yet no matter where you stay, or what you do during your trip, you’re sure to fall in love with our little corner of the Rockies, and we thank you for visiting us here at Aspen Colorado Lodging.
